What makes The Center for Preventive Medicine® so unique?
In traditional medicine, when symptoms of disease appear, patients visit their personal physician; vigorous treatments of the effects of disease are not initiated until then. The Center for Preventive Medicine® uses a strategy that involves assessment of your risk factors for diseases, advanced technologies for early detection of disease, and the latest risk reduction methods to prevent these diseases from occurring.

What if I already undergo an annual physical?
The prevention packages at The Center for Preventive Medicine® go far beyond any annual physical you have ever experienced. Your center physician will devote more than two hours during your visit to the review of your medical history and current health status, your physical examination, review of your advanced laboratory and imaging reports, and discussion of your health concerns and recommended preventive strategies. The complete preventive assessment usually requires from 6-10 hours, depending upon the package.

If I've already had a heart attack or another chronic health problem, would The Center for Preventive Medicine® still be helpful to me?
Absolutely. The Center for Preventive Medicine® can give you a complete, detailed picture of your current health, and you will receive this data on MyMedDrive™ (our digital storage device) to share with physicians who are helping manage your health. Often, a chronic condition like cardiovascular disease will develop along side other disease processes, and The Center for Preventive Medicine® can take you through a preventive package that is so complete, it may be able to prevent those diseases from developing, or detect them in their earliest stages.

Will my insurance cover services obtained at The Center for Preventive Medicine®?
The Center for Preventive Medicine® does not accept insurance as payment, but many of the services provided may be covered, in part or in full, by insurance carriers. Our financial consultant will assist you in filing your claim so that you may receive reimbursement directly from your insurance company. Experience shows that the ranges of reimbursement for preventive medicine services are approximately 20-60 percent.

Why is health insurance not accepted at The Center for Preventive Medicine®?
The health insurance industry currently operates primarily as a “disease-oriented” system, providing reimbursement only after diseases become symptomatic. Preventive medical care has not been valued in this model and reimbursement is variable. At The Center for Preventive Medicine® we encourage our clients to take responsibility for their own health and wellness, beginning with the decision to take responsibility for the cost of preventive services.

Does The Center for Preventive Medicine® have payment plans?
Yes, we offer several options that will help you manage the costs of your preventive services. Call The Center Manager to discuss which option might work best for you.

What do I get for my money?
At The Center for Preventive Medicine® we treat you as a unique individual. The services recommended for your visit will be based upon your age, gender, family history, genetics, disease risk, and personal needs. Please contact a Center Manager for personalized recommendations that fit your health and wellness concerns.

What does The Center for Preventive Medicine® cancer screening detect?
The risk of many cancers can be predicted based upon your family history; personal medical history; current and previous lifestyle choices; nutritional assessment; environmental, chemical, and radiation exposures; and genetic information. The state-of-the-art technologies at The Center for Preventive Medicine® can detect cancers at the earliest possible stage when they are most treatable, and often curable. Cancer screening includes the CT lung scan, mammography, virtual colonoscopy and hemocult testing, ultrasonography, Pap smear, and prostate specific antigen. Other testing and counseling are also available when requested.

How do the professionals at The Center for Preventive Medicine® identify the risk of cardiovascular disease?
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in our nation, an unfortunate statistic since most heart and vascular diseases are completely preventable. The risk of cardiovascular disease can be predicted based on well-known risk factors, as well as evaluation of newer markers of cardiovascular risk and inflammation, such as hs-C-reactive protein, lipoprotein (a), Homocysteine, fibrinogen, infectious titers, and other laboratory tests. At The Center for Preventive Medicine® we also use advanced diagnostic technologies to identify the presence of early plaque development before symptoms of blockage occur. Computed tomography (CT) detects calcium in the heart and total vascular system.  Other cardiovascular screening technologies include vascular ultrasound, and stress testing.

What types of scans are performed on the CT Scanner and how do I know which is right for me?
The CT scanner at The Center for Preventive Medicine® offers the CT heart scan (for measurement of coronary artery calcification), CT lung scan (lung cancer screening), and virtual colonoscopy (no shots, no laxatives, no insertion of the six-foot-long colonoscope). Our prevention experts will help you determine which imaging study is right for you based on your age, gender, lifestyle choices, family health history, and genetic risks.

What can a CT heart scan detect?
Cardiovascular disease and many cancers have a long latent period (pre-clinical phase) before any symptoms appear. Diagnostic tests such as exercise treadmill testing and nuclear medicine scanning detect blockage of the coronary arteries only after you have more than 50 percent obstruction and symptoms of disease have become obvious. CT can detect the earliest possible signs of heart or vascular disease, lung and colon cancer, and more. The earlier these diseases are detected, the sooner you can begin aggressive preventive strategies to reduce your risk of serious medical events. Prevention is a science, and scientific research has clearly proven that early prevention works. The scan itself takes only a few minutes.
