According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1.7 million Americans die of a chronic disease each year, accounting for about 70% of all U.S. deaths. These serious diseases are often treatable but not always curable. Chronic, disabling conditions cause major limitations in activity for 1 out of every 10 Americans, or about 30 million people.
In addition, chronic diseases now account for more than 75 percent of the nation’s $1.4 trillion in medical care costs, an amount expected to double in the next decade.
The good news is that many chronic disease processes can be slowed through preventive care. This is the mission of The Center for Preventive Medicine. At the Center, we first focus on early diagnosis – actually pinpointing your risk factors for certain chronic diseases. The next step involves taking proactive steps, such as improving nutrition and exercise through our counseling sessions, to reduce your health risks for chronic illness, so you can enjoy a much more active, vital and productive life.
